PR Portfolio
Here’s the Deal:
Leah Jereb is a creative and strategist communications professional with several high-profile campaigns, media placements, partnerships, and events under her vintage leather belt. At National Geographic, she specialized in promoting the century-old magazine itself, books under the company’s publishing arm, daily news stories, major brand campaigns, photography initiatives, and more.
Throughout her time at National Geographic, Leah promoted approximately 40 issues of the magazine with its writers and photographers, securing placements in top-tier press including the Today Show, New York Times, Washington Post, The Guardian, CNN, People Magazine, CBS This Morning, Today Show, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, and countless others. She’s pitched stories about the race to space, a treacherous hike through the Grand Canyon, endangered species, CRISPR technology, the science of lying, race, gender, and so much more.
Throughout her career, Leah has worked with several prominent figures and organizations, promoting initiatives and projects including Dr. Bob Ballard, Buzz Aldrin, Ben Folds, Gates Foundation, Al Gore’s Climate Reality, Cleveland Clinic, and the UN Environment Programme. Leah also created several influencer outreach campaigns at Nat Geo, before influencers were fully “a thing". For example, she reached out to the “alt” national parks social accounts (which popped up after President Donny implemented a gag order on environmental agencies) to promote a digital infographic on climate change. Cheeky.
Leah also supported numerous executives during her time at Nat Geo. She staffed the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief on numerous interviews, provided executive assistant support to the Chief Communications Officer, and ran the CEO’s Twitter for a couple years, resulting in a 180% increase in daily impressions. One of them once called her a “clever little elf.” It was related to the office’s white elephant holiday gift exchange, but Leah took it as a compliment.
Supporting several initiatives and prominent magazine cover stories including “The Race Issue,” “The Gender Issue,” “The Story of a Face,” and "Planet or Plastic?”, Leah cut her teeth crafting poetically factual press releases, airtight talking points for sensitive topics, and reactive PR statements where needed. She has managed external PR agencies and coordinated strategy with dozens of National Geographic’s international publishing partners. Known for her creativity, acumen, and discernment, Leah is a communications professional who knows how to promote a brand, product, or initiative with exceptional professionalism and flair that will cut through the noise and help tell the world’s most important stories.
Tapping Unlikely Influencers
After the last president implemented a gag order on U.S. environmental agencies and national parks, a bunch of “alt” Twitter accounts popped up to fill the void. Leah reached out to them to promote a National Geographic interactive on climate change. The accounts shared the interactive, driving traffic to the page and meaningfully inserting Nat Geo into the conversation.
